Total N-Stock

The total amount, total stock, of nitrogen (N) in soils is very high, between 1000 and > 20,000 kg N per hectare. Over 95% of the total N-stock generally derives from soil organic matter. Part of this stock will become plant available N (mineral N) by the process of mineralization – generally between April to late August.

The scale of the N content on your soil sample is how close the sample is to a target value. This target value is different for every soil sample, as it reflects the soils potential. This avoids setting an unrealistic target with a universal standard target figure.
