Soluble crude protein
Soluble crude protein is originally a Scandinavian index. It indicates the solubility of the protein in the rumen. Soluble crude protein is related to the Rumen degradable protein (RDP). The higher the solubility of crude protein, the more protein becomes available at rumen level. The time of mowing, fertilizing and current weather conditions influence the percentage of soluble RE. Young mowing and high N-doses result in higher percentages of soluble crude protein. S-fertilization also influences this. The index is often used in various ration optimizations in order to properly coordinate nutrients at rumen level.
